Hey all you cats and kittens! It's Pearl with the Pearl Report. Today's topic is Play. Now that Mommy has completely healed from her accident (see last blog post), I'm able to relax a little and enjoy myself. Play is a huge part of that. Both felines and humans need to play to be happy and well adjusted. It releases tension and stress, which can cause lots of health problems if the stress is chronic. Play also allows felines to practice their hunting skills and use their vast mental abilities. It's also exercise for humans, not much I admit, but anything that gets Mommy off the couch and away from the T.V. is beneficial.
Mommies and Daddies who love their precious felines will provide many opportunities for play. Often this takes the form of toys, so I have decided to review my huge store of toys to let other felines and their humans know which are the most fun.
Toys that make noise are always interesting. My favorite types of these toys have a pole to which the toy is attached with a cord. Usually, the cord is stretchy. This type of toy is very easy for Mommy to play with too, and it's a lot less likely to be lost under furniture. I have posted a picture of this type for you. Another fun toy is called a busy ball. I enjoy them, but they have an unfortunate habit of rolling under furniture and then I have to get Mommy to get them out.
There are also other toys available, that don't make sounds or are meant to be batted about. Some of them have catnip in them. I like the catnip toys, but eventually they lose their smell and then they are not as interesting or fun. Some toys are confusing and just not fun at all. I have posted a picture of the not fun toy.
My favorite toys though, are not really toys. These are things that are just fun to play with! The first one I like is my scratching post. It's not really a post! It's a board that hangs on the door, isn't that funny. I don't scratch on it, I prefer the carpet in the bedroom for that, but the board makes a wonderful thumping sound when I attack it and it swings around which is extremely exciting. Here is a picture of my scratching post.
Another non toy that is super fun is Mommy's hair ties. I love them so much I steal as many as I can. These are great for batting around, you can carry them easily, and most of the time I can fish them out if they go under something. I highly recommend these items.
Finally, I come to the best non toy there is. Boxes! I have to say that of all the boxes I've played with Amazon boxes are the best. Very sturdy and long lasting, they make for long hours of happiness. Also, my friends at Amazon often put lots of lovely crinkly paper in the box just for me. Here is a picture of me in my box. A big shout out to Amazon workers for all their efforts to make the best boxes for cats.
So, fellow felines and humans, those are my recommendations for fun, but the important thing to remember is to play everyday. Play with your Mommies and Daddies, they need it to. It will keep you and your humans healthy and happy.
Until next time, keep scratching,
Pearl
