Sharing Our Homes

Hey all you cats and kittens!  This is Pearl with the Pearl Report.  Today's topic is sharing your home with others.

By others, I mean others besides Mommy or Daddy.  Many felines graciously allow other species besides humans to reside with them.   Typically these are creatures like fish, rodents, or birds.  I don't have any of these, though I have seen pictures of fish on Mommy's phone and I think they are very interesting and tasty looking.  I have also seen birds out my window and they don't seem very smart, so I don't know why some felines allow them.

I have a dog!  It lived with Mommy before I picked her, but now it is my dog.  My dog is very old and sleeps most of the time.  Sometimes, he is grouchy and fusses at me, but I don't pay attention because I am in charge and he has to do what I say.  He doesn't know how to play and sometimes he tries to sneak my food.  I just let him because it's cute that he thinks I don't know.  He does have the most beautiful fluffy tail that is perfect for practicing pounces.  I practice my leaps by jumping over him.  He doesn't really like it, but that's just too bad for him.  I do like my dog, though and sometimes I show affection by head butting him.  He doesn't mind head butts.  I have posted a picture of my dog's tail which is the best part of him.

For a while, we had a guest dog.  I didn't bother to learn it's name.  It was big and barked too much.  It didn't have any manners and wasn't smart enough to understand that I was in charge, even though I fluffed up and hissed at it.  It went home to its Daddy, which was good.

I met another dog when I was very little.  Mommy and I went on a long trip to see Aunt.  Aunt lives with the dog in the other picture I posted.  There were other dogs, but I didn't meet them.  Aunt's dog was friendly and had passable manners.  It was obvious there were no felines in Aunt's house.  That meant I was in charge.  Aunt's dog was fine with that.  She was very good at chase, but she didn't know how to leap and pounce or hide and surprise.  I think she was pretty smart, though, so I could have taught her if Mommy and I had more time.  If Aunt comes to visit, maybe she will bring her dog and I can teach her to play.

Even though having a dog is a lot of work, I would not want anything to happen to my dog.  I make Mommy help me take care of him, so it's not too bad.  I think it is important for felines to learn about other species and to graciously help provide for them, as long as they understand that felines are the best species.

Keep scratching cats and kittens!

Until next time,

Pearl
