Valentine's Day

Hey all you cats and kittens!  This is Pearl with the Pearl Report.  Today's topic is love! 

Today is the day humans celebrate love.  They call it Valentine's Day after some person.  I don't really know about the person, but I know all about love.  Mommy and I watched lots of movies about it.  She calls them romance movies.  They are mostly about love between two humans and they're pretty boring.  They're almost exactly the same, too.  Clearly humans have a lot to learn about love.  As a grown feline, (yes readers, that is correct, I'm a whole year old this month) I know a lot about love.  Humans like to identify many different kinds of love and try to explain what type they're feeling.  Felines know that love is the same.  The ones doing the loving are different.  Love may be deeper and stronger with one, or more casual with another.  Love may involve sharing between some or it might not.  It might be a fleeting sign of respect and mutual liking between two persons.  It may be a faint feeling of good will or it may be warm and comfortable.  It's the people that are different, not the feeling.

It isn't just humans who feel it either!  Love is for everyone!  Well, maybe not bugs.  Bugs are just bad.  Maybe not lizards, I kill them, so not much time to know if they feel love.  All of us mammals feel it though.  Love isn't just good feelings, though.  Love is a choice.  Everyday, I choose to love my Mommy for so many reasons.  When she is having a bad day, it's hard to love her.  I get angry and sometimes I growl at her.  I don't stop loving her, I get angry because I do love her and I hate to see her unhappy.  It makes me unhappy too.  Love is hard work.  Love is doing right by your loved one even when they are not acting very loving.  

I love my old dog, even though he doesn't really love me.  He fusses when I clean his ears and snuggle up to him.  That is just too bad, because I've chosen to love him.  I'm in charge, so he will just have to plan on being loved.  I love my puppy.  She is growing and is now bigger than me, but she is still too little to really know much about love.  Right now, love is all about fun and playing.  She is a lot of fun to play with.  I like to chase her up and down the hall, but my favorite way to play with her is to hide and jump out at her.  She always gets excited and runs around me barking.  

No pictures today, cats and kittens.  Pictures don't do love justice.  However, love is all around us, so maybe you don't need a picture anyway.  Love is wonderful.  Humans need to realize that all love is special and should be celebrated everyday.  I do enjoy all the flowers and hearts, though.  Humans can be so cute, sometimes.
